Get Your Hands Dirty Life is beautiful I know it’s true And it’s sad sometimes but what can you do Like a house of cards It’ll fall apart And it ends sometimes before it starts Get your hands dirty Get your hands dirty, baby Come on and get your hands dirty That’s what I say Life is magical From time to time But even Easy Street’s got an uphill climb And a slippery slope When you’re sliding down No matter who you are You will hit the ground And get your hands dirty Get your hands dirty, baby Come on and get your hands dirty That’s what I say You can’t always know the way to go the will of this old world You can’t always find the way back home when it's dark at night and the rain comes pouring down Life is radiant When it dawns on you But it’s hard to see after what you been through The most precious thing That you hold inside Can be torn from your arms Make you want to die Get your hands dirty… Life is beautiful I know it’s true And it’s sad sometimes but what can you do When the times are hard and the times are tough and the wheels are low and the road is rough and there’s no one gets you down inside and all you know is where to hide and where to sink into the ground and hope that you are never found and then there you are you’re way down down maybe 4 or 5 feet neath ground and no one knows to dig you out cause you don't scream and you can’t shout and you think that you will never get out and this might be your final bout but suddenly you hear the sound or smell the smell or taste the ground and look around and fall in love but now you gotta rise above and there’s just one way for you to fly and it’s not the tears left in your eyes… Get your hands dirty… © 2011

October 04:52
October Another day October Leaves are burning I’ve got no complaint If she only knew What I never told her I’ve been lucky I have not been a saint Don’t you wonder where the time goes Nobody knows The lies we tell to put food on the table How would you know if this was not the way You should’ve lived your life out Oh well hard to tell How would you know if this was not the way You could’ve lived your life Well anyway Another ending Indian Summer Contemplating a machine I could rent If I only knew It would turnover I’d be happy just to be content We could really use the time alone Out on our own What more does it take to get back to the garden How would you know if this was not the way You should’ve lived your life out Oh well hard to tell How would you know if this was not the way You could’ve lived your life Well anyway Don’t you wonder when the harvest will show More than we owe Look at the moonlight there in the garden How would you know if this was not the way You should’ve lived your life out Oh well hard to tell How would you know if this was not the way You could’ve lived your life Well anyway How would you know... Another day October Everything’s burning And I’ve got no complaint © 2006

Too Much to Carry Well I got too much to carry to wait for you If you’re coming let’s get going If you’re not then let me through Well I got too much to carry to wait for you If you’re coming let’s get going If you’re not then let me through When the man has all the money And the working man he has none Well the man gonna look funny At the end of the working man’s gun When the man Is on the run In the land of the setting sun When the man Is on the run Well I know that our work is done When the stars are not in focus And there’s nothing but a storm in the sky Well the stars they gonna know us When we tell it to the mountain on high When the man Is on the run In the land of the setting sun When the man Is on the run Well I know that our work is done Well I got too much to carry to wait for you If you’re coming let’s get going If you’re not then let me through I got too much to carry to wait for you If you’re coming let’s get going If you’re not then let me through Well I went to see the doctor And he told me what I already know He said son you got a number And that number be the death of you When the man Is on the run In the land of the setting sun When the man Is on the run Well I know that our work is done I won’t go down your bottom line I won’t go down your bottom line Got all of yours and most of mine But I won't go down your bottom line © 2011

Put It On 05:14
Put it On All the women want to thrill you Tax collector wants to bill you And there’s no telling what they caught you carrying Wild music on the bayou Voodoo lady wants to try you And they haven’t heard a thing from the Ice Cream Man If I ask would you refuse me Tell a lie would you accuse me Take it or leave it You can wait til you believe it Don’t worry There’s no hurry Them bridges are built carefully Fires won’t burn them down And you put it on Put your cover back on Put it on Put your cover back on All the guests are dressed you might expect For plastic tactics and the rest But this joke is just a page in history My existence my persistence I’m observing magnificence And avoiding all the smiles I used to see If I ask would you refuse me Tell a lie would you accuse me Don’t blow it Don’t show it Don’t act as if you know it Don’t worry There’s no hurry Them bridges are built carefully Fires won’t burn them down And you put it on Put your cover back on Put it on Put your cover back on You never know when you’re gonna need a friend You never know when you’re gonna need a place to hide If I ask would you refuse me Tell a lie would you accuse me When you're happy to be happy Walk beside them quietly Don't kill it Don't fill it Be careful you don't spill it Lies won't turn them around And you put it on Put your cover back on Put it on Put your cover back on © 1992

The Sun Won't Go Away Lord I'm tired Lord I'm tired But my head won't let me sleep It comes swimming near the surface Then it plunges way down deep I keep thinking I can float away From all the thoughts I keep Then I realize it's useless Cause my head won't let me sleep Lord I'm weary I'm so weary And my body's feeling sore And though I no it's late My troubled mind can't close the door The clock upon my wall says that it's Quarter after four But my mind just can't remember That my body's feeling sore Now it's morning Lord it's morning And the sun won't go away It comes ringing through my window Like a messenger to say You stayed up all night fearing That your wasting everyday Now it's morning lord it's morning And the sun won't go away © 1993

about

This is an album that no one ever thought would be made...least of all, the people who made it. It contains 14 original songs that were recorded and mixed from October, 2011 through July, 2012. Basic tracks--drums, bass, guitars, scratch vocals- for all 14 songs were recorded in 3 days. The sweetening and mixing took the better part of a year, but the spirit of that first long weekend, the spirit of Left Exit, got the train rolling down the right track and our job throughout the year was just to not get derailed.

Disc One of RECREATION contains 7 songs written after Left Exit-the band whose ashes the Exit Reunion rose from-broke up. These songs had never been performed on stage (or anywhere else, for that matter) at the time they were recorded. The ease with which these new songs came together was deeply satisfying for the band.

Disc Two of RECREATION contains 7 songs written before Left Exit-the band whose ashes the Exit Reunion rose from-broke up. Most of these songs had been performed on countless stages east of the Mississippi but were, for a variety of reasons that remain unclear, left off Left Exit's only CD, DO IT ANYWAY, released in 1990. Knowing these songs have been dusted off and committed to tape, as it were, is deeply satisfying for the band.

about

Exit Reunion New York, New York

In October, 2011, soon after a rousing, 20-year reunion show at Bobby Q's in Westport, CT, members of the erstwhile jam band, Left Exit, got together in a studio made of reclaimed bowling lanes in Brooklyn, NY to begin recording what would, a year later, become RECREATION, a 2-disc, 14-song album by a band of one time road warriors with some unfinished business. Thus was born Exit Reunion. ... more
